Licenses v. Users

We manage our users from EM Server and provide them licenses through the EM Server Admin.

I am looking for resources on how to manage users v. licenses and explanation of the differences between them. The reason is that I have given all my users licenses. However, not all are showing consistent information on both areas.

Anyone that can point me to resources to learn about this or answer - I really appreciate it!

Hi Carl,

Your first screenshot shows the configuration of Server users, i.e. people who can access the Server and its spaces. Accessing the Server doesn't require a license - a Server license includes unlimited Server users.

Your second screenshot shows the configuration of Desktop licenses provided to Desktop users by your Server. The number of Desktop licenses that can be leased from the Server is limited and is configured in your license key stored on the Server.

So you have two groups of people - Server users and Desktop users. These two groups are not the same. Although, they can intersect - some people can have Desktop licenses leased from the Server and also be Server users because they need to access a Server space (e.g., to use the space repository).

In most Server deployments, all Desktop users are also Server users, but not all Server users are licensed Desktop users.

You can read more about Server users and leasing licenses to Desktop users in the respective chapters of the Server Admin Guide that comes with the Server installer or can be downloaded from the Server download page.
