Fit to Content not fitting to content

When using the Fit to Content option, one of the columns I have is not fitting to the largest data set in a column.

The column normally has values that are 16 characters long, but some of them have multiple values separated by pipes as this is how the client exports the information for merged records, e.g.

1234567890123456|2234567890123456|3234567890123456

Is this a bug or is this by design? It would be useful if it is by design to have some kind of flag that indicates most or the records fit this but there are some that are larger.

The Fit to Content analyzes the first 100 values because tables can be very long and analyzing all values may lead it UI slowdown. If a value further down the table is longer, then it may not fit.
