The shading on null cells versus simply blank cells is extremely subtle. I wish there was a way to make the shading on null cells just a little more visible.

We will add a setting for this in application preferences.

This is the setting in the application preferences. Look it up in v5.6 (to be released soon).

Also, in v5.6.1 we've added the indication of cell type in the bar below the ribbon menu:
